Kansai Airports plans to revive India and Indonesia flights and expand US routes

Yasuaki Mikami, representative director and CEO of Kansai Airports, said that the operator is in discussions with airlines to restart suspended routes linking Kansai International Airport with India and Indonesia, citing strong regional business demand. He emphasized that flying from Kansai saves time and distance compared with using Haneda Airport in Tokyo, though he did not set a timeline for the resumptions. Mikami also expressed interest in securing new services from the U.S. Midwest and East Coast.

To support growing e-commerce cargo, the company plans additional investment in its cargo facilities and is reviewing traffic flow to improve logistics. A recent renovation of Terminal 1 expanded the international departure area and enhanced duty-free shops, raising average monthly duty-free purchases by 10 percent. Meanwhile, the group’s Kobe Airport aims to launch scheduled international flights by 2030, and Mikami hopes to add routes to South Korea and Taiwan, building on existing charter links.
