Kansas Senator Settles Six-Year Bakery Debt Amid Re-Election Scrutiny

Sen. Roger Marshall paid a $1,300 invoice for cookies, muffins and brownies ordered by his 2020 campaign after years of public pressure.

Roger Marshall, the Kansas senator first elected in 2020, resolved a six-year-old unpaid catering invoice after a bakery owner publicly highlighted the debt. Holly Thomas of Holly’s Sweet Treats explained that her campaign-ordered treats for a primary watch party were never paid, a loss that hit her fledgling business during COVID. After the complaint went viral, Marshall posted on X that he had repaid the $1,300 bill, including interest, and shared a transaction screenshot.

Critics linked the incident to earlier reports that Marshall, an OB-GYN, had sued patients for unpaid medical fees. The payment arrives as Marshall battles Democrat Adam Hamilton in a Senate contest that could end a decades-long Republican hold on the seat. Thomas confirmed receipt of the funds, while Marshall’s campaign declined further comment, focusing instead on his legislative achievements.
