Karachi signs Rs14 bn deal to add 10 MGD water line for DHA and Clifton
Karachi officials and the Frontier Works Organisation signed a Rs14 billion agreement to lay a new water pipeline from Dumlottee to DHA and Clifton, aiming to deliver an extra 10 million gallons per day within a year.
In a ceremony attended by Mayor Murtaza Wahab and senior officials, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation and the Frontier Works Organisation signed a Rs14 billion contract to build a dedicated pipeline from Dumlottee to the Defence Housing Authority and Clifton. The line is expected to provide an additional 10 million gallons per day, with construction slated to begin next week and be completed within a year. Currently, KWSC can supply only 550-650 MGD against a city demand of about 1,200 MGD, leaving many households dependent on private tankers.
The mayor described the new supply as a crucial step toward alleviating the water crisis in the affluent neighborhoods. The initiative is presented as a collaborative effort between the provincial administration and KWSC to make Karachi’s water system more efficient and sustainable. Attendees also included FWO Head Brig Adnan Akhtar Ali, DHA Administrator Brig Ameer Nawaz Khan, Local Government Secretary Dr Waseem Shamshad, MNA Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, PPP leader Syed Najmi Alam, and KWSC CEO Ahmed Ali Siddiqui.
