Karine Lalieux condemns political hostage-taking of SLRB and housing sector
Karine Lalieux told a housing committee that the SLRB, workers, social tenants and the construction industry are being used as political pawns.
In a session of the housing committee, Karine Lalieux criticised the use of the SLRB, its employees, social tenants and the broader construction sector as leverage in political battles. She referred to a prolonged impasse over an emergency loan to the public housing operator, which had been delayed for many months. The debate also involves a contested recapitalisation plan that surfaced after MR president Georges-Louis Bouchez expressed dissatisfaction with Lotfi Mostefa's appointment to the Anderlecht housing board, despite irregularities flagged by the inquiry commission.
Lalieux explained that the recapitalisation funds are intended to settle construction industry invoices and are part of the 2026 budget framework. She warned that one outlet political pressure is harming both the building sector and vulnerable tenants.
Why it matters
The dispute threatens funding for public housing and could destabilise the construction sector and social tenants.
