Karl Rove warns Republicans of a tough Texas Senate showdown
Veteran strategist Karl Rove cautioned that the Texas Senate race could become a serious problem for Republicans as the election nears.
Speaking with a journalist at one outlet, longtime Bush operative Karl Rove warned that the Texas Senate contest could turn into a significant setback for Republicans. He highlighted James Talarico’s concentrated effort and massive fundraising haul of more than $70 million, contrasted with Ken Paxton’s modest $9 million cache and perceived lack of campaign presence, including trips abroad during key holiday periods. Rove described the race as a “true toss-up” despite Texas’s Republican lean.
Former Republican official Miles Taylor echoed the criticism, calling Paxton’s campaign “embarrassing” and noting poll leads for Talarico. Rove added that the final result may depend heavily on Donald Trump’s decision to spend from his two super-PACs, MAGA, Inc. and Never Surrender, which together hold over half a billion dollars. He warned that without such support, Republicans could face a damaging loss in a traditionally red state.
Why it matters
The race could signal shifting voter dynamics in Texas and affect Republican control of the Senate.
