Karnataka High Court forms SIT to re-investigate veterinary recruitment scandal
The Karnataka High Court appointed a Special Investigation Team led by IPS officer Alok Kumar to re-examine the alleged KPSC veterinary officer recruitment fraud, with a 100-day deadline.
On Monday, the Karnataka High Court constituted a Special Investigation Team to conduct a fresh inquiry into the KPSC veterinary recruitment scandal, removing the case from the Criminal Investigation Department. Justice M Nagaprasanna, hearing petitions from a BJP MLA, a student association and affected candidates, appointed senior IPS officer Alok Kumar, currently Inspector General of Prisons, as the team head, with members including Divya Gopinath of the State Forensic Science Laboratory and senior police officers Anoop Shetty, Kushal Chouksey and Kshama Mishra.
The SIT has been given 100 days to complete its work and must file a progress report every 30 days, while the CID must supply all relevant documents within a week. The court emphasized that the investigation should not be limited to the currently named individuals and must follow any evidence wherever it leads. It also ordered the team to cooperate with the Enforcement Directorate, which is probing the case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Several arrests have been made, notably former KPSC president Shivashankarappa Sahukar, examination controller Gyanendra Kumar and alleged middleman Basavaraj Kannale.
