Karnataka officials shut down Zepto's Bengaluru warehouse after surprise safety inspection

Karnataka's Food Safety and Drug Administration Department conducted a surprise inspection of the Zepto warehouse (operated by Nippon Express) in Hoskote taluk on August 11, as part of a special drive overseen by Health Minister UT Khader. Inspectors reported several breaches, including non-compliant labeling, misbranding of food products, and unhygienic handling and storage conditions, violating the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and related rules.
The department immediately sealed the facility and served a notice to Zepto's management, recommending that a case be filed before the appropriate adjudicating officer. A Zepto spokesperson acknowledged the observations and indicated that the company is implementing the suggested remedial measures. The Commissioner emphasized that strict legal action will follow any further infractions, and the department plans to continue such inspections to protect consumer safety.
