Karnataka records over 110,000 Form 7 objections as SIR voter list review continues
Karnataka's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls has attracted 110,654 Form 7 objections, with the Election Commission setting deadlines for resolution and publication.
During Karnataka's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, 110,654 Form 7 applications seeking objections to proposed inclusions or deletions were submitted, according to data released by Chief Electoral Officer V Anbukkumar. The Election Commission has ordered that all objections be resolved by October 22, with the final revised roll to be published on October 27. The state has over 45 million registered voters, and election officials have delivered 99.80% of the 4.38 million notices generated, completing hearings on 93.47% of them.
A final hearing is scheduled for October 12. BJP state president BY Vijayendra accused the Congress government of pressuring police to file cases against party workers over the Form 7 filings, while asserting that the SIR exercise aims to purge duplicate and deceased entries. He also raised concerns about alleged inclusion of illegal immigrants in certain constituencies. The Chief Electoral Officer warned district officers to investigate bulk submissions and pursue action under the Representation of the People Act where false statements are found.
Why it matters
The large number of objections highlights political tension over voter-list accuracy ahead of upcoming elections in Karnataka.
