Katja Wolf warns former BSW of enabling AfD to lead state parliament
Thuringian finance minister Katja Wolf criticised her ex-party BSW ahead of the first session of the Saxony-Anhalt parliament, saying its support would hand the AfD a powerful chair.
Katja Wolf, serving as Thuringia’s finance minister, launched a sharp attack on the BSW just before the Saxony-Anhalt Landtag convenes for its first session. She claimed the BSW’s cooperation would enable the AfD to obtain the influential position of parliamentary president, a step she deemed inappropriate. Wolf further warned that the BSW’s announced abstention in a potential third-round election of AfD’s Ulrich Siegmund for minister-president would effectively signal consent.
She emphasized that the BSW cannot claim distance from an AfD premier after such a stance. Wolf, a longtime politician from Eisenach, said she never regretted leaving the Left for the BSW, but she could not have imagined the party evolving into an authoritarian project. Her new party, Thüringen.Gerecht, aims to offer a political alternative free from the “nasty” tactics of the AfD.
