Kazakhstan aims to boost oil shipments to Germany as Moscow ties wane
Kazakhstan announced plans to increase its crude oil exports to Germany, positioning itself as a reliable alternative to Russian supplies.
At a press conference with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, President Kassym-Schomart Tokayev said Kazakhstan intends to expand its crude oil deliveries to Germany and remain a dependable partner. The proposal follows Germany's decision to cease importing Russian oil, prompting a search for diversified supply lines. While specific volumes were not disclosed, Kazakh oil already accounts for about one-fifth of the feedstock at the PCK refinery in Brandenburg.
That plant has been forced to source oil elsewhere after Russia halted shipments through the Druzhba pipeline. Tokayev also reiterated Kazakhstan's respect for territorial integrity and noted its good relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite not supporting Moscow's war in Ukraine.

The deal could lessen Germany's reliance on Russian oil and reshape European energy security.
