KDNP holds prayer for alleged political prisoners, attended by Viktor Orbán's mother
The Christian Democratic People's Party organized a prayer service for several opposition figures it calls political prisoners, and Viktor Orbán's mother was present.
In a ceremony at Budapest's central parish church, the Christian Democratic People's Party (KDNP) conducted a prayer service for a group of opposition politicians it labels as political prisoners, including Hankó Balázs, Varga-Bajusz Veronika, Seszták Miklós and Bús Balázs. KDNP faction leader Rétvári Bence called on supporters to stand with the detainees and their families, emphasizing that they are not alone. The gathering was notable for the presence of Viktor Orbán's mother, highlighting the party's close ties to the prime minister's family.
The service was led by parish priest Osztie Zoltán, whose sermons openly endorse the right-wing government. The individuals named have faced accusations of involvement in multimillion-euro corruption tied to the NKA-botrány and the Volánbusz case.
Why it matters
The event illustrates how Hungary's ruling party blends religion and politics to portray opposition figures as victims of persecution.
