Kelantan sees rise in commercial crime losses and e-commerce scams through August

Kelantan’s police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat announced that commercial crime losses totaled RM33.47 million between January and August, up by RM5.97 million from the previous year’s RM27.50 million. The number of reported commercial crime cases grew to 1,921 from 1,100, with e-commerce scams jumping from 260 to 657 cases and other cyber-crimes rising from 287 to 444. Despite this, the overall crime index fell three percent to 1,213 cases, and violent crime dropped 11 percent to 276 cases.

Property crime remained almost unchanged, and narcotics cases and seizures both declined significantly. Police highlighted ongoing prevention efforts, including patrols, community programmes and a Volunteer Smartphone Patrol that now has over 150,000 members.
