Kelantan transport officials uncover scheme where Myanmar nationals buy Malaysian vehicles for Rohingya

Kelantan's Road Transport Department has identified a new method in which Myanmar nationals, entering Malaysia with proper documentation, acquire Malaysian-registered motorcycles and subsequently lend them to Rohingya contacts. Director Mohd Misuari Abdullah explained that the vehicles are bought and registered under the Myanmar citizens' names before being handed over for movement within Kelantan. The department intends to work with other agencies in joint operations to seize or monitor these vehicles, citing concerns that they may be used for illicit purposes.

While bicycle use is not a focus, motorised transport triggers enforcement actions. Despite recent court charges against several local owners, some still rent out vehicles out of sympathy or ignorance, though the prosecutions have discouraged many. Officials say monitoring will continue and violations will be pursued.
