Kensington house fire kills toddler, leaves three others injured
A fire in a Kensington home killed a toddler and wounded three other residents, according to fire officials.
Around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, a fire erupted on the second floor of a residence on D Street near Ontario in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood. Philadelphia Fire Department crews arrived to find a toddler and an adult trapped in a back bedroom, while another adult and a child managed to exit the house themselves. The toddler was taken to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, where she was pronounced dead.
The other child and one adult are listed in stable condition, and the second adult remains in critical condition. Preliminary information points to a lithium-powered e-bike battery as a possible ignition source, though officials have not confirmed the exact cause. The incident remains under investigation by fire officials.
