Kenton County to Convert Former Fox Run Golf Course into 225-Acre Public Park

Kenton County officials have approved converting the former Fox Run Golf Course, located at 604 Independence Station Road, into a 225-acre public park called New Kenton County Park. The course, which averaged only 9,000 to 10,000 rounds annually, was closed after a 2019 shift to a third-party operator and a recommendation to improve the county’s golf finances. A deed restriction tied to Land and Water Conservation Fund dollars requires the land to stay in recreational use, prompting the Fiscal Court to preserve it as open space.

The park will be organized around three ridges—Civic, Adventure and Trail—featuring a fishing pond, dog park, fitness zone, climbing structures, mountain-bike trails and a potential Go Ape aerial course, while keeping about 70% of the acreage natural. Planning began in 2021 with grant-funded master-plan work by Human Nature, and construction management was awarded to Prus Construction in April 2026, with ground-breaking expected later that year.
