Kentucky Senate hopeful Andy Barr removes Trump photo from campaign site

Andy Barr, a Republican congressman seeking the Kentucky Senate seat left by retiring Mitch McConnell, has removed a prominent photo of Donald Trump from his campaign homepage, swapping it for a picture of his family and a new slogan emphasizing Kentucky. The revision follows a hard-fought primary in which Barr, along with two other GOP hopefuls, stressed alignment with Trump to capture the MAGA base. Although the top-level image and many Trump references have been deleted, the site still mentions Barr’s early endorsement of Trump and his chairmanship of the president’s 2024 Kentucky campaign.

Barr’s campaign reiterated that he remains proud of Trump’s endorsement and will continue to fight for Kentucky. Other Republicans, including Ralph Alvarado, James Gallagher and Ryan Mackenzie, have made comparable edits to downplay their Trump ties. The Cook Political Report classifies the Kentucky Senate contest as “Solid Republican,” noting that Democrats have not won a Senate seat there since 1992, though the state re-elected Democratic Governor Andy Beshear in 2023.
