Kentucky State Trooper Killed on I-65, Suspect Arrested in Louisville

While on duty along northbound Interstate 65 in Warren County, Kentucky State Police trooper Hayden Phillips was shot and died. Phillips, a Bowling Green-based officer, was responding to routine patrol when the attack occurred near Smiths Grove. Investigators quickly focused on a Honda Civic bearing an Alabama license plate that had been at the location.

After a statewide search, officers in Louisville apprehended a suspect, whose name has not yet been disclosed. Kentucky State Police Commissioner Phillip Burnett Jr. issued a statement mourning the loss and pledging support for Phillips’ family, and Governor Andy Beshear called the fallen officer a hero. A news conference is planned in Bowling Green to provide further details.
