Kenya incinerates $63 million meth shipment seized off Mombasa
Kenyan officials destroyed a 1,024-kilogram methamphetamine haul worth about $63 million after it was intercepted in the Indian Ocean.
On October 25, 2025, the Kenyan Navy intercepted a flagless vessel carrying 1,024 kg of methamphetamine roughly 630 km off the coast of Mombasa. The cargo, valued at an estimated $63 million, was taken to port under armed guard and later incinerated in a high-temperature kiln while officials observed. Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen oversaw the destruction and pledged tougher action against Kenya’s role as both a transit hub and market for illegal drugs.
He warned that traffickers would be prosecuted and that authorities would seek seizure of related assets. Six Iranian nationals arrested aboard the ship remain in court on drug-trafficking charges.
