Kenya reports second Ebola infection in a relative of the first patient
Kenya's health ministry confirmed a second Ebola case, a 39-year-old relative of the man who died after arriving from Congo.
Kenya's Ministry of Health announced a second Ebola infection, confirming that a 39-year-old man, a close relative of the country's first patient, tested positive while under quarantine. The first case, a 40-year-old Kenyan who became ill in Congo, traveled through three affected provinces before reaching Uganda and then Kenya, where he was hospitalized and died on the day his diagnosis was confirmed. About 128 contacts linked to the initial case have been identified, with 108 placed in quarantine and five notified to foreign authorities.
The ministry emphasized early detection improves recovery chances and reported no signs of community transmission. In response, Kenya has intensified health screenings at airports and border crossings and urged the public to use an emergency hotline for suspected cases.
