Kenyan cult leader convicted of 191 murders, including 190 children

A Mombasa court found Paul Mackenzie, who led the Good News International Church, and about 30 co‑defendants guilty of murder for the deaths of 190 children and one adult in Shakahola Forest. Prosecutors described a structured plan that prioritized the deaths of children before other age groups, with many victims dying of starvation and some from asphyxia or head injuries. Investigators uncovered more than 400 bodies in shallow graves at the forest site, though only a fraction could be identified. The verdict was delivered after an eight‑hour hearing by Justice Diana Kavedza Mochache, and the court will hand down sentences on November 6.
