Kerala consumer panel orders Ola Electric to refund scooter purchase and pay compensation

A Kerala consumer commission ruled that Ola Electric failed to provide proper service for a defective S1 Pro scooter and ordered a full refund plus compensation.

The Kasaragod consumer tribunal concluded that Ola Electric did not honor warranty obligations for a customer's S1 Pro Gen 2 scooter, which suffered rear shock and battery issues within months of purchase. The buyer, Jithin G.A., paid a Rs 71,259 down payment and financed the remainder, but faced repeated breakdowns and was directed to a distant Mangalore service centre after local outlets ceased operating. The commission highlighted that Ola's warranty terms allowed unilateral changes, deeming this an unfair trade practice. With no evidence presented by Ola, the bench led by President Krishnan K and Member Beena K.G. ordered a full refund of Rs 1,03,999, Rs 25,000 compensation, and Rs 5,000 for complaint costs, to be paid within 30 days.

Why it matters

It underscores consumer rights enforcement against electric vehicle manufacturers failing to honor warranties.
