Kerala consumer panel trims refund for matrimonial site to Rs 15,000 after shortfall in promised matches
Kerala's consumer commission ordered a Rs 15,000 refund to a user of M4Marry.com after the site supplied only 51 contacts instead of the promised 100.
The Kerala State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ruled that M4Marry.com failed to meet its service commitment after a customer paid Rs 25,960 for a three-month subscription promising 100 matrimonial contacts. Only 51 profiles were provided, and the complainant said none were suitable. The Kottayam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission had directed the company to refund the entire amount and pay Rs 5,000 in compensation.
On appeal, a bench consisting of Justice B Sudheendra Kumar, Ajith Kumar D and K R Radhakrishnan confirmed the deficiency but cut the refund to Rs 15,000, noting that partial service had been rendered. The commission also upheld the Rs 5,000 compensation and dismissed the company's challenge, reinforcing consumer rights against unmet online service promises.
