Kevin Pietersen joins England's white-ball squads as specialist mentor ahead of World Cup

England’s men’s white-ball program has added former captain Kevin Pietersen as a specialist mentor in the lead-up to the 2026 Cricket World Cup in Africa. He will join Brendon McCullum’s coaching team for the imminent T20 and ODI series versus Sri Lanka, working with staff members Marcus Trescothick, Tim Southee, Jeetan Patel and Sarah Taylor. Pietersen, who last wore the England shirt in 2014, said he is honored to help the team chase a World Cup title and is eager to work closely with the players.

McCullum highlighted Pietersen’s achievements and noted that his knowledge will be especially valuable for the batting group. The mentor role will also extend to winter tours of Australia and South Africa, as well as the home series against Pakistan and New Zealand next summer.
