Kevin Sinfield's Ultra-Run Tops £1 Million for MND Charities

Kevin Sinfield's seven-day ultra-running challenge has raised over £1 million for motor neurone disease charities, beating the £777,777 target on day four.

Kevin Sinfield is completing his seventh ultra-running fundraiser, the "7 in 7: The Grand Finale," which sees him run daily for a week to the stadiums of the 12 English Betfred Super League clubs. After reaching the £777,777 target on the fourth day, day five in Salford pushed total donations past the £1 million mark for a consortium of motor neurone disease charities, including the Motor Neurone Disease Association and the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

The challenge, motivated by the late Rob Burrow, has raised more than £11 million for MND causes since it began in 2020. Sinfield started day five at Huddersfield Giants' Accu Stadium, where Paralympic gold medallist Hannah Cockcroft attended, and later passed through his hometown of Oldham before finishing at Salford’s AIG Stadium. The final leg will end at Old Trafford ahead of the Super League Grand Final, where his son Jack is slated to play for Trinity, and will also pass the grounds of Leigh Leopards, Wigan Warriors and conclude at St Helens’ Brewdog Stadium.

Why it matters

The fundraiser highlights the power of sport figures to mobilise significant support for motor neurone disease research and patient care.
