Key Corruption Figure Sharangan Maheswaran Set to Testify in ICAC Probe

Sharangan Maheswaran, a 36-year-old lawyer who acted as Jean Nassif’s right-hand man, is slated to appear before the Independent Commission Against Corruption. Investigators allege Maheswaran maintained links with a private investigator, a former Strathfield councillor, and lobbyists Jeremy Greenwood and Christian Ellis, who were paid $2 million by Nassif. His mobile phone and laptop were confiscated after he returned from Singapore on 2 March 2023, shortly after police raided Nassif’s Sydney properties in connection with a $150 million fraud probe.

The commission also heard bizarre testimony from Mohammad Abedin, who said he drafted a statement using ChatGPT—a claim the commission could not verify. Maheswaran’s upcoming testimony is expected to shed light on alleged surveillance, blackmail attempts on former mayor Matthew Blackmore, and other murky dealings within Strathfield Council.
