Khosla family completes $9.6 billion acquisition of Super Bowl champion Seahawks

The Khosla family finalized the purchase of the Seattle Seahawks for $9.612 billion, taking control of the reigning Super Bowl champions.

The Khosla family officially closed a $9.612 billion deal to acquire the Seattle Seahawks, the current Super Bowl champions, on Thursday. NFL owners had approved the sale a week earlier, allowing the family to assume control. Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures, will act as chair, while Neeru Khosla becomes the controlling owner and head of the Seahawks Charitable Foundation, and Neal Khosla will serve as vice chair.

The ownership consortium also includes Mark Stevens, the Aramburuzabala family, Val Blavatnik, Sheryl Sokoloff, Gonzalo Hevia Baillères, Jesse van der Werf, Samir Kaul, Sunny Gupta, Nader Naini, Penny Pritzker, Carlyle, Dynasty Equity and Sixth Street. The sale follows the late Paul Allen’s estate’s decision to sell the franchise, a process that began in February, and required the Khoslas to relinquish their stake in the San Francisco 49ers.

Why it matters

The deal transfers control of a championship NFL franchise to a prominent Silicon Valley family, impacting sports, business and community ties.
