Kia tops 100,000 electric vehicle sales in South Korea this year

Kia Corp., South Korea's second-largest carmaker, announced that cumulative electric-vehicle sales in the home market have passed the 100,000-unit threshold for the year, reaching 100,118 units by September 17. This figure more than doubles the 45,518 EVs sold during the same span last year and accounts for 23.8% of Kia's overall sales of 420,426 vehicles. The company's EV portfolio comprises the EV3, EV4 and EV5 sedans, the EV6 and EV9 sport-utility vehicles, and the purpose-built PV5 model.

In Germany last month, Kia introduced the PV7, its second purpose-built vehicle, and intends to roll out the PV7 Cargo Long and PV7 Passenger Long, each about 5.3 metres long, in South Korea and Europe in the second half of 2027. A Kia spokesperson said the new model will reinforce the brand's leadership in the domestic EV market.
