Kifli.hu customer service system breached, exposing Hungarian shoppers' data

Kifli.hu disclosed that its customer-service platform was hacked, giving attackers access to user communications, addresses and shopping lists.

Kifli.hu announced that its customer-service infrastructure had been compromised, allowing hackers to view a wide range of data belonging to Hungarian shoppers. The compromised material comprised email correspondence, chat logs, files shared in chats, transcripts of phone calls, as well as customers' physical addresses, shopping lists and accompanying remarks. The company detected the intrusion after it was reported and indicated that the attackers accessed communications from earlier in the year and emails sent after early July. Kifli.hu cautioned that the exposed information could facilitate large-scale phishing campaigns and advised recipients of unexpected messages to avoid clicking links, instead checking the authenticity through the official Kifli website and its support channels.

Why it matters

The breach puts thousands of shoppers at risk of phishing and identity fraud.
