Kincsesbánya school building closed after structural safety deemed critical
Education Minister Judit Lannert announced the immediate evacuation and closure of the Kazinczy Ferenc Tagiskola in Kincsesbánya after a structural report labeled the building unsafe.
Education and Child Welfare Minister Judit Lannert reported that the Kazinczy Ferenc Tagiskola in Kincsesbánya was declared unsafe by a newly issued structural opinion, leading to an immediate evacuation. The school has struggled with structural defects for more than a decade, with cracks deepening annually and a reinforcement project required previously. This summer the condition deteriorated further, prompting the headmaster to request a formal assessment.
Following the verdict, 124 pupils and 25 school employees were left without a classroom. A collaborative solution involving the school, the district centre, the Klebelsberg Centre, the local representative and the municipal government will house classes in two municipal buildings, with lessons slated to begin on Monday. The minister highlighted that long-standing technical problems and inadequate past interventions rendered the building unsafe for both teaching and entry.
Why it matters
The closure affects over a hundred children and staff, highlighting infrastructure challenges in Hungarian schools.
