King Charles' Caribbean tour faces renewed calls for a slavery apology

King Charles is set to begin an eight‑day Caribbean tour that will include stops in the Bahamas, Guyana and Antigua and Barbuda. Commonwealth Secretary‑General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey said an apology for slavery would not hurt and reflects the wishes of member states. Caribbean activists, led by groups such as the Bahamas National Reparations Committee, have petitioned the monarch to support their reparations campaign. The tour will coincide with a Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting where reparations are likely to be debated, and the king will deliver speeches as head of the Commonwealth.
