Klebelsberg Center demands clarification after right-wing backlash to school career workshop

The Klebelsberg Center asked for details from Újpetrei Primary and the Mohács district office after right-wing politicians and influencers criticised a career-guidance session held at the school.

The Klebelsberg Center promptly reached out to Újpetrei Primary and the Mohács Tankerületi Központ to obtain a full account of a recent workshop after right-wing politicians and influencers claimed it was an LGBTQ-sensitisation session. The school clarified that the activity, run by the Pécsi Emberség Erejével Alapítvány, was a career-orientation session using board games to discuss various occupations and hobbies, with teachers present throughout and no discussion of sexual or gender topics.

The school director confirmed the workshop was initiated by a class teacher and supported by the school administration. In response, the Klebelsberg Center released a statement demanding lawful operation of educational institutions, emphasizing children’s safety and asking media to refrain from filming students. The organising NGO later deleted photos of the event after they circulated via right-wing influencers. Education minister Tisza has pledged further reforms, restoring hiring authority to school heads, while the Education and Child Welfare Ministry announced applications for district director positions.
