KLM flight to Curaçao turns back to Schiphol after powerbank ignites on board

A KLM Boeing 777 en route from Schiphol to Curaçao was compelled to return to Amsterdam after a powerbank aboard the aircraft ignited while the plane was cruising over the Atlantic Ocean. The cabin crew successfully extinguished the fire, but the incident prompted the airline to abort the journey and land back at Schiphol. All passengers are now being reallocated to other flights, though the airline has not confirmed whether every traveler will board the next scheduled service to Curaçao.

KLM reiterated its policy that passengers may carry a maximum of two powerbanks, each subject to capacity limits, and that their use or storage in checked luggage is prohibited. The airline cited a similar incident a year earlier on a flight from Sao Paulo to Amsterdam, marking the first recorded case of a powerbank fire on a KLM aircraft.
