Kochi nursery blaze probed as possible rehearsal for wider terror scheme

Police are treating the fire at a horticulture nursery near Kochi's Kadavumbhagam Synagogue as a potential test run for a larger terrorist plot, citing messages about Jewish sites and cryptocurrency payments.

Authorities in Kochi are examining the horticulture nursery fire near the Kadavumbhagam Synagogue as a potential rehearsal for a broader terror operation. Phone records from the suspect contain references to Jewish religious sites and coordinated attacks across several Indian cities, raising concerns about organized planning or foreign terrorist connections. The accused, Ebin Paul, is alleged to have been instructed and paid in cryptocurrency such as USDT.

Investigators also uncovered visual material that appears to be reconnaissance and practice runs, linking the incident to three similar events logged in Ernakulam rural. The anti-terror squad has led the inquiry from the outset, with state and central agencies assisting, and officials are considering transferring the case to the National Investigation Agency. Charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act have been filed, while police continue to trace the message senders, financial flows, and any broader network.

Why it matters

The case could reveal a coordinated terrorist network targeting religious sites and using cryptocurrency for illicit operations.
