Koike-Ya introduces Kumamoto beef-flavored chips, pledges donations for quake recovery
Koike-Ya Inc. will sell potato chips seasoned with Kumamoto Akaushi beef, donating one yen per bag to aid the region’s earthquake rebuilding efforts.
The confectionery company Koike-Ya Inc. announced a new snack featuring Japanese potatoes, garlic, soy sauce and locally prized Akaushi beef. Production at its Mashiki plant, halted for over two weeks after the magnitude-7.1 quake, resumed on Aug. 17. The chips will hit convenience stores nationwide on Sept. 21, with a yen from each bag earmarked for disaster relief. Governor Takashi Kimura praised the initiative as a morale boost for the affected community.
