Økokrim arrests multiple suspects in nationwide fishery fraud investigation

Økokrim, together with police in several northern counties, has detained several individuals suspected of falsifying fish catch records.

Økokrim coordinated a multi-location operation across Finnmark, Nordland and Møre og Romsdal, arresting several people accused of submitting false fish catch data to landing stations. The investigation was triggered by anonymous tips and reports of irregularities in catch registration. Police emphasized the seriousness of the case, noting that fishery crime harms both public resources and legitimate operators.

The Coast Guard, Justervesenet and the Fisheries Directorate assisted, the latter offering specialized knowledge on fisheries. Økokrim's chief prosecutor, Elisabeth Harbo-Lervik, said the agency must investigate any alleged illegal activity, while Fiskeridirektoratet's section chief, Karianne Moen, highlighted the ongoing collaboration to prevent and uncover wrongdoing. No further details on evidence or charges have been released.
