Kolkata nurse discovered dead in hospital washroom during night shift

Police reported that a 30-year-old nurse on night duty at the high-dependency unit of NRS Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata was discovered dead in a staff washroom of the Gynaecology Department building. She had reported for work at roughly 8 pm and entered the washroom around 10.30 pm; when she did not emerge, coworkers broke down the locked door and found her lying unconscious. A doctor examined her and declared her dead, while investigators noted the absence of external injuries and a suicide note.

Detectives suspect she may have succumbed to an overdose of an anaesthetic drug administered by injection, but the homicide team is pursuing all possible leads. The nurse’s remains have been dispatched for a post-mortem analysis, and state health minister Sharadwat Mukherjee inspected the hospital the next day to speak with night-shift staff.
