Kolkata police launch probe after death threats sent to former cricket captain and wife

Sourav Ganguly, the former India cricket captain and current president of the Cricket Association of Bengal, approached Kolkata police after his office received two letters that threatened the lives of him and his wife, Dona Ganguly. The threats, which have been sent over roughly six months, escalated to explicit murder threats in the latest correspondence. A written complaint was lodged at Thakurpukur Police Station, and investigators are examining the letters, their courier origin, and a mobile SIM linked to the sender.

Preliminary findings point to a courier service operating out of Belgharia in North 24 Parganas district. Police have contacted the courier firm to obtain shipment details and are tracking the identified phone number. The probe also aims to determine whether a single individual is responsible for all the letters and to uncover any motive behind the intimidation.
