Konfederacja's Flattering of Karol Nawrocki Seen as a Dangerous Misstep

The piece warns that Konfederacja’s overt admiration for President Karol Nawrocki could sabotage its right-wing independence.

The author points out the familiar clash between Sławomir Mentzen and Jarosław Kaczyński, noting that Nowa Nadzieja’s president has long attacked the PiS leader. Historical examples such as Samoobrona, Liga Polskich Rodzin and Porozumienie illustrate how closer ties with PiS can become a one-way ticket for junior coalition partners. Although PiS is currently weakened by the departure of Mateusz Morawiecki and his allies, it still holds considerable governmental experience.

Konfederacja, seeking to build a broad right-wing bloc, nevertheless shows a puzzling willingness to flatter President Karol Nawrocki. The author argues that Nawrocki’s career follows a post-solidarity, PiS-aligned narrative, making the party’s praise of him a strategic error that could undermine its autonomy.

Why it matters

It highlights how Konfederacja’s alignment with a PiS-friendly figure may weaken its role as an independent right-wing force.
