Korea Investment Management launches first Hong Kong semiconductor ETF with CUAM

Korea Investment Management and China Universal Asset Management's Hong Kong unit have listed their jointly created semiconductor ETF on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Korea Investment Management’s inaugural exchange-traded fund, developed together with China Universal Asset Management’s Hong Kong subsidiary, was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on Friday. The CUAM Solactive China & Global Semiconductor ETF carries a net asset value of HK$15.85 million and follows the Solactive Ace ETF Connect China & Global Semiconductor Top 30 Index, giving investors exposure to leading chip producers like Nvidia, TSMC, Samsung Electronics, ASML and Broadcom, as well as related Chinese and Hong Kong tech firms.

The collaboration began with preliminary talks in April of the previous year and culminated in a strategic cooperation pact in November to expand both firms’ presence in Hong Kong’s ETF market. Both parties hope the fund will qualify for the ETF Connect program, which links mainland China and Hong Kong markets, pending compliance with required criteria. Korea Investment Management announced a $5 million capital injection to help ensure a stable market debut and indicated plans to develop additional joint ETFs, eventually extending into mainland China. CEO Bae Jae-kyu said the listing demonstrates the firms’ long-standing partnership and marks the start of broader overseas ETF ambitions.

Why it matters

It provides investors a new channel to invest in global semiconductor leaders via Hong Kong, reflecting expanding cross-border ETF cooperation.
