Korean Air successfully pilots urban air mobility test flights to nearby islands

Korean Air demonstrated urban air mobility operations on island routes off Incheon's west coast, using a surrogate aircraft and its ACROSS system.

The airline carried out a trial on Tuesday, partnering with KT Corp., Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Engineering & Construction. A surrogate aircraft was flown between islands near Incheon while Korean Air's in-house ACROSS platform managed the traffic. The test aimed to prove that UAM can function outside dense urban centers. The carrier plans to finish the first phase of the Incheon UAM control project by December.

Why it matters

The test shows UAM could expand transport options to remote islands, shaping future air-taxi networks.
