Korean culture and AI spotlighted in Mexican TV specials during Lee's state visit
Mexican broadcasters aired documentaries on Korea's cultural influence and human-centered AI as President Lee Jae Myung visited, coinciding with a new AI cooperation pact with President Claudia Sheinbaum.
During President Lee Jae Myung’s official visit to Mexico, TV Azteca and Imagen Television presented three documentaries that examined Korea’s rise in soft power and its approach to artificial intelligence. Produced in partnership with Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the films highlighted the legacy of independence leader Kim Koo, the historic migration of 1,033 Koreans to Yucatán in 1905, and the way traditional elements like “jang” and “hanbok” inspire modern fashion and urban design.
One program featured Kim Mi, director of the Kim Koo Museum and Library, emphasizing a sharing-oriented cultural vision. Another segment focused on AI anxieties, showing robots at Hyundai Motor’s headquarters, AI-driven interview systems, vocational training, disaster-prediction research, firefighting robots and medical AI. The documentaries were distributed across broadcast, paid TV and online platforms, with the TV Azteca film reaching over 10,000 YouTube views.
Concurrently, Lee and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum adopted an AI cooperation declaration and a 2026-2030 joint action plan covering AI, aerospace, defense, culture and education. Gong Hyeong-sik of the culture ministry said the series aimed to convey Korea’s cultural power and human-centered AI vision to Mexican audiences.

The broadcasts and bilateral agreement seek to strengthen cultural exchange and collaborative AI development between Korea and Mexico.
