Korean firms urged to replace outdated IT systems as AI heightens cyber threats

AmCham and Cisco held a closed roundtable in Seoul urging Korean companies to modernize aging IT assets to guard against AI-driven cyber risks.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea and networking giant Cisco convened a private roundtable in Seoul to press Korean businesses into action on aging IT infrastructure. Participants, including Cisco Korea President Choi Ji-hee, AmCham Chairman James Kim, and KISA director Oh Jin-young, warned that end-of-life equipment lacking updates creates exploitable entry points as artificial-intelligence-driven attacks become more advanced.

A Cisco-backed Australian Strategic Policy Institute study cited cases from Korea, India, the Philippines and Australia, urging clearer accountability and procurement reforms. Attendees were urged to inventory vulnerable assets, devise phased replacement plans aligned with operational priorities, and integrate lifecycle management into broader risk strategies. The forum also touched on emerging challenges from AI and quantum computing, emphasizing the need for sustained investment to maintain digital competitiveness.

Why it matters
