Korean job ads grow longer and list more qualifications as AI demand rises

Job postings on JobKorea have become significantly longer and include more detailed qualification sections, reflecting a surge in AI-related skill requirements.

JobKorea’s recent study of postings from 2021 through the third quarter reveals a marked expansion in both length and detail of Korean job ads. Separate sections for preferred qualifications have almost doubled, and required-qualification sections have risen notably. Median character count rose from 483 to 864, with the average also increasing.

References to AI capabilities, including terms like “AI utilization,” “generative,” “prompt,” and tool names such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, surged by 198% compared with the same period a year earlier, now comprising about 1.9% of all listings. Over half of AI-related ads feature a preferred-qualification segment, far exceeding the overall rate. The trend is linked to a decline in large-scale annual recruitment drives and a move toward year-round hiring for targeted positions, as firms seek to specify the exact skills they need.

Why it matters

The shift signals tighter hiring standards and growing AI skill demand in Korea's labor market.
