Korean social-media users demand clear labels for AI-generated posts and ads

A survey of 900 Korean YouTube, Instagram and TikTok users shows strong support for mandatory AI-content labeling, with most respondents calling it essential.

Opensurvey’s poll of 900 Korean users of YouTube, Instagram and TikTok revealed that 85.6% expect platforms to indicate when content is created with artificial intelligence, and 54.1% deem this disclosure essential. Approval rates were 88% for YouTube, 85.3% for Instagram and 83.3% for TikTok. Nearly half of respondents said AI-generated material feels artificial or awkward, while 39% doubt its factual reliability and 33.8% feel deceived when AI use is hidden.

Only a small minority described such content as creative, interesting or novel. In advertising, 13.2% recalled negative reactions to AI-made ads, and many called for more detailed notices about which parts of a post involve AI.

Why it matters

Clear AI labeling can reduce misinformation and restore trust in social-media platforms for Korean users.
