Kristi Noem’s Special Envoy Role for Shield of the Americas Ends, Shifts to Advisory Position
Kristi Noem’s envoy designation for the Shield of the Americas expired last month; she now serves as a senior advisor to Deputy Secretary Landau while still working on the initiative.
According to a State Department source, Kristi Noem’s appointment as the Trump administration’s special envoy for the Shield of the Americas concluded last month, and she no longer holds that title. She has transitioned to a senior advisory role under Deputy Secretary Landau, maintaining involvement with the Shield of the Americas agenda. The initiative, launched earlier this year, brings together the United States and several Caribbean and Latin American countries to coordinate on economic cooperation, anti-cartel efforts, and related matters.
Although her envoy status expired before the United Nations General Assembly, Noem still participated in related diplomatic sessions and met with Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa in Quito. She also attended a Shield leaders’ gathering hosted by President Trump, who publicly thanked her for her contributions. Noem was originally appointed in March after leaving the homeland security secretary post, and her public activities in the role have been limited to a few high-level meetings.
Why it matters
