Kuwait crushes seized diesel tankers and trucks in anti-theft crackdown

Kuwaiti authorities have destroyed 21 seized tankers and trucks used in a subsidised diesel theft ring, according to the interior ministry.

The interior ministry said the vehicles were confiscated after being involved in the illegal acquisition, transport and resale of subsidised diesel. Some owners had knowingly leased their rigs for the operation. The decision mirrors a similar punitive measure taken by Qatar two years ago, when a car was crushed after a reckless-driving video. Officials presented the crushing as a deterrent against future violations.

Why it matters

It shows Kuwait's aggressive approach to curbing fuel fraud and sets a harsh precedent for illegal diesel schemes.
