Kwaśniewski urges Nawrocki to attend G20 in Miami despite Putin invitation

Aleksander Kwaśniewski appeared on Polsat News to discuss the upcoming G20 summit scheduled for December in Miami, where Poland will attend as a guest and President-elect Karol Nawrocki is being prepared for the trip. He warned that the presence of Russia, specifically a possible invitation to Vladimir Putin by the United States, should not deter Nawrocki from going, adding that he would not shake Putin’s hand. Kwaśniewski condemned the Trump administration’s move to invite Putin, calling it a mistake, and contrasted his past experience of meeting the Russian leader more than twenty times with what he described as a newer, more aggressive “Putin 5.0”.

He recounted Putin’s earlier ambition to rebuild a “great Russia” and his claim that Ukraine is contested by Russia and Poland, to which Kwaśniewski replied that Poland has no imperial aims and supports a democratic Ukraine. The Polish Office of International Policy, represented by Marcin Przydacz, also voiced displeasure at the invitation but noted that Poland does not decide the G20 membership. Nawrocki has previously said he does not trust Putin and backs continued aid to Ukraine and sanctions on Russia.
