Kyle Chandler Leads New HBO Green Lantern Series "Lanterns" with a Detective Twist
Kyle Chandler stars as Hal Jordan in HBO's new series Lanterns, where he mentors recruit John Stewart while investigating a Nebraska murder.
In the latest DC Universe rollout, Kyle Chandler assumes the role of Hal Jordan in the HBO series Lanterns, guiding new Green Lantern John Stewart, portrayed by Aaron Pierre, through a murder case in Nebraska. The concept originated from James Gunn and Peter Safran, who sought a late-night superhero drama inspired by shows such as True Detective and Mare of Easttown. Co-creator Tom King noted the intention to shift from the expansive feel of the Ryan Reynolds movie to a more intimate character study.
Chandler stressed that his portrayal diverges from Reynolds', focusing on building chemistry with Pierre. The series premiered in Los Angeles, with creators highlighting the blend of cosmic energy and procedural storytelling.
Why it matters
The series offers a fresh, character-driven take on a classic superhero, appealing to both comic fans and drama viewers.
