Kyushu Shinkansen to fully restart service on September 18 after July quake
Kyushu Railway Co. announced that all Kyushu Shinkansen bullet-train operations will be back to normal on September 18, following a suspension caused by a July earthquake in Kumamoto.
The railway operator confirmed that the entire Kyushu Shinkansen line will resume service on September 18. The suspension began after a magnitude-7.1 quake struck Kumamoto Prefecture on July 28, reaching the highest intensity level in the towns of Uki and Hikawa. The tremor caused more than 30 fatalities. Restoration work has now progressed enough to allow full operations to restart.
