L.A. County boy dies in freezer after year of alleged torture and neglect
An 8-year-old boy was found dead in a freezer at his parents' home after prosecutors say he was starved, chained and abused for about a year.
Isaiah Harrison, once a heavyset 8-year-old, was found dead inside a small freezer in his parents' bedroom in Lynwood after losing more than half his weight over a year. Prosecutors allege that his parents, Daniel Monzon and Destiny Harrison, and his grandmother, Ana Zarceno-Carcamo, repeatedly chained him to furniture, denied him food and subjected him to physical beatings, leading to severe injuries and a fatal pneumonia infection.
Autopsy images displayed numerous welts, lacerations and muscle wasting from prolonged restraint. The family has pleaded not guilty and faces murder and torture charges that could carry life imprisonment or the death penalty. A lawsuit filed by Isaiah's siblings claims that the county Department of Children and Family Services and the Lynwood Unified School District ignored repeated warnings, allowing the abuse to continue unchecked.
